Integrate…

A long time ago, when feeling overwhelmed trying to balance three kids under eight, being a busy dude at work, loving my bride, loving the Lord, and being a friend to a few, I went to Pastor Rick for some advice. Told him I was out of balance. Not playing any of my roles well. Feeling never enough at home, work, and with really all of life. His response was epic.

Get comfortable being out of balance.

His CCD response, I told him, was not helpful. That’s when he told the power of cheating em all. He reminded me my problem was mostly cheating toward work. Cheat toward all of them. FIO (figure it out). This is when I began my aim to integrate, not balance. Led to choosing where and how I work. Scheduling cheat time toward God, Miss, my kids. And, the lynchpin? Integrating work and life. Still working on it to this day.

The pic above is a good example. Lori, on the left, is a client and friend. Big Jay represents my childhood. Miss is my bride. Krit my girl. We’re in KC working and playing. The tickets came from a client and friend. The next day would be filled with seven practices. Was it a work trip, or the trip of a lifetime? In my mind? Both.

Your OPUS for your work and your OPUS for your life are yours to author. Integrating them into ONE creates your magnum OPUS – your great work. FIO. Damn.

Live hard. Love harder…
