Or, as Coach Wooden (the GOAT) put it “be quick, don’t hurry.” Easy to see this play out in sports. The brain starts to move faster than the body, the body starts to move faster than the play requires. So a routine ground ball turns into a booted error. Slow it down, be intentional about your pace. That allows you to make a smooth play, which means making the fastest play that is available to you.
Same is true in business. If you want to move fast with intention and precision, then slow down first. Set your aim. Decide how you want to run the play. Then once you’re clear, speed back up. Plan your move, plan your cadence, THEN execute.
Great time of year to slow down, reflect on the plays you made this last year. What habits do you want to stretch in the new year? What plays do you want to consistently make at a higher level? How will you practice that? This isn’t a spin on New Years Resolutions, it’s core work. Where will you become more of who you say you are? Where will your behaviors better align with your beliefs?
