Beauty…

We humans are spiritual seekers. We look around the physical world and inside ourselves and sense there must be something we can’t see. At a minimum we want clarity and understand faith, of some sort, is required. Secondly, we are drawn to beauty. We notice the sunrise and have to stop and stare. And, we want the beauty to linger and last, but when we’re honest we see it fleeting, oftentimes, just like our faith. Thirdly, we know there is a right and wrong. This is why we are wired so deeply for justice and feel the slightest tweak as if we’ve been cut to the bone. We want things put to rights and yet know we can’t even make ourselves right. Finally, we yearn for relationship. We want to know another and be fully known. We deeply desire someone to understand and accept us and yet even our closest, covenant, or biological, kinda relationships leave us hurting as much or more than whole. We want love and are left longing. Thank you, N.T. Wright.

Maybe, just maybe, these yearnings point to a creator who wired these desires for real spirituality, beauty, justice, and lasting relationship because He designed us for just such purpose. Makes some sense to me and requires a leap of faith but not a blind one. Today, slow down and think about why you’re here, where you’re going, and how you’re gonna live accordingly. “Never say die” is fools gold kinda thinking. You are much better than that. Apply the scientific method and don’t forget to include some faith. I mean come on man, none of us can explain love but we certainly know it’s the most powerful mover of human kind. I wonder why…

Live hard. Love harder…
