Been another bittersweet week for this man. Most are. Remember, the grass is always greener where you water it. Water the sweet. Swallow the bitter.
For me, weeks like this are a great reminder of my most sacred and never fully comprehended sense of identity. I believe we are all children of a loving God. Whose we are matters more, so much more, than who we are.
“Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalms 100:3
Later today I’ll watch a team of superior, gifted, and hard working athletes play a game most of them love. They identify as athletes, as they rightly should. There will come a season of life (kairos) where this will change. Injury might bring it today. Eligibility will bring it soon enough. Age will take it inevitably. Time, remember, is undefeated. Most of our identities are temporal. Putting first things first, doesn’t make second things less, it actually makes them more. Thanks, C.S. Lewis.
Whose > who. This gives me hope. You? What gives you hope in your crucible? Slow down. Write. Reflect. What identity occupies your pole position? Damn.
Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
