George Washington was a stud leader way back in the day. His finest moment, however, is rarely studied. The continental army was due wages. Been going on for years. The leaders said no bueno. Enough. Organized a mutiny. One of GW’s trusted leaders let him in on the insurrection. So, GW showed up and gave a speech for the ages to rally them to carry on. Nope, not exactly.
George showed up. Walked to the front of the church where his team had assembled to mutiny. Pulled his paper from his front pocket to read his prepared speech. Forget his bifocals. Could. Not. See.
All he said was CCD truth. “I’ve grown tired and lost my eyesight in service to you men and our cause.” The team wept. Never seen the dude show weakness. Mutiny no mo. The rest is history. The lesson? Vulnerability is not weakness. We stick with the HUman. We stick it to the MAN. Be more human, leader. Damn.
