Haven’t hit a bad putt yet…

Practice ONE.65 with OSU mens golf was more freakin’ magic. JimmyTHEgreat, assistant coach, shared some CCD truth with the team. They were getting curious how he had beaten the socks off them yesterday in a practice round down in Georgia. He hardly plays now. Next to never practices. Yet, his wedge game and putting seemingly haven’t suffered. Still gets it up and down from the damn ball washer.

As JimmyTHEgreat shared his story, he reflected for a moment about his rough day on the greens. Coach Mo, in fact, had even given him some trash talk, mid round about his balky putter. JimmyTHEgreat’s response was the freakin’ magic. Here’s what he said verbatim. “I haven’t hit a bad putt yet, just can’t see the line.”

Champions sound like Jimmy. Good players, when they struggle, shit talk themselves. “I know, right, I just suck putting on Bermuda greens! I’ve never been able to read greens and never will. Putting is my Achilles. Always has been. Always will be.” This is what shit talk sounds like. Ever talked like that to yourself when seated squarely on the struggle bus?

Here’s more truth about JimmyTHEgreat’s mindset. He may not have been able to see the line but he could see the hole. He didn’t get frustrated with his misses. He made sure his speed was money. Tap in pars were his all day deal. Once he made the turn and hit a few on the practice green, he saw the line. Turn out the lights.

What’s your self talk like when you can’t see the line? Slow down. Reflect. Maybe it’s time you think a bit more like JimmyTHEgreat and get those sorry thoughts out of your head. Haven’t hit a bad putt yet. Damn straight.

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
