Volitional…

David L. Cook, in his materpiece titled Greatness, describes the volitional continuum brilliantly. This is great leadership learning for you and your teams. Volition, by definition is the power or faculty of choosing; the will.

We’ll go from worst to first. The parentheses are my extrapolation, for what it’s worth…

I won’t. (No will)

I can’t. (Incapable will)

I’d like to. (Wishful will)

I’ll try. (Incomplete will)

I can. (Competent will)

I will. (Champions will)

You and your team are choosing everyday to be great or something less than. Champions choose to will themselves into all kinda hard because their aim is worth the work. STOP trying to motivate teammates who lack the will. Tell them where you see them choosing poorly. Remember Yoda’s volitional CCD freakin’ magic. “There is no try. Do or do not.” Remember, you choose. Your choices have consequences.

I will. Done so. Damn.

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder…
