There are no permanent advantages. It’s baked in to the process. The moment you rise to the top, you’re facing new headwinds. Opportunity for hubris, increased focus from competition, a skill set that becomes outdated, a desire to “relax” after what you’ve earned, etc. When you think your competitive advantage is so great it can’t be overcome, you’ve sowed the seeds of your own downfall. So what’s the answer? More work within. Read Chet’s blog from yesterday.
The truth is, staying at the top is an order of magnitude harder than getting there, and getting there is pretty frickin hard in the first place. The bigger the sail, the greater the need for ballast. In BTL parlance that means the higher you rise, the more need there is for a stronger core. Get building.
