Nurture the roots…

I had another blog planned for today but was so moved by a client yesterday I had to take a hard right turn. She shared a story about how her Mother is navigating her final years of life, which are becoming increasingly more challenging, with such grace and positivity. I asked her what’s at the root of her worldview to maintain such a perspective despite such hardship?

The truth is her Mother planted the roots of her worldview years ago and has been nurturing them ever since to prepare for this phase of life.  I see a lot of my clients that have planted their trees and have branches that are growing at an incredible pace, but I wonder if the tree is built to last through all the seasons of life ahead. We work with masters in their craft who can get lost in just that: their craft, which over time can lead to their tree growing in lopsided ways and not withstand an unforeseen storm ahead.

We need to grow as well-rounded trees with well-established roots in fertile soil that help us navigate all aspects of our life: ourselves, our families, our craft, our health (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual), our relationships, our community and for some even our golf game..

It got me thinking what roots I need to nurture this week. It led to some reflection on how I need to show up at home for my young boys after a long week of pursuing OPUS. I have some PAs that are rooted in my belief system to realign.

What’s the old cliche about a tree? The best time to plant one was 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now. Whether you are planting your worldview with us for the first time or have been growing yours for 20 years, let’s all get back to nurturing the roots this week.
