Jim Gant


Jim Gant is a distinguished former United States Army Special Forces officer with over 50 months of combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. Throughout his military career, Gant demonstrated exceptional bravery and leadership, earning a Silver Star for valor during the Iraq War in 2007.

He is also the author of the influential monograph One Tribe at a Time: A Strategy for Success in Afghanistan, which proposed leveraging the Pashtun tribal system to build security at the village level. This work was highly praised by military leaders, with General David Petraeus calling it “very impressive” and General Stanley McChrystal distributing it to all commanders in Afghanistan. Gant’s innovative strategies significantly influenced the creation of the Afghan Local Police and the implementation of Village Stability Operations.

Today, Jim channels his extensive experience, energy, and insights into building other leaders.
His journey on the battlefield has prepared him to build other leaders who are becoming Built to Lead.
