CORE inspired leaders both dream and do. In fact, they see dreams and action as but two steps in the same process. Let that thought sink in for a moment. What are your big dreams for your work and life? What are your productive actions that move you consistently in the direction of your dreams?
Normal leaders fall into one of two camps regarding dreaming and doing. They usually land on one side or the other. The “dreamer” lives at 30,000 feet and their followers rarely connect with their vision. Oftentimes this leader has a dream disorder. It seems with every new day comes a new dream. These leaders seem to always be one idea away from the one idea.
The “doer” jumps off the visionary bandwagon and just gets busy. There is no time to dream with so much work to do. They run from meeting to meeting and set a rigorous activity bar for those who follow. This leader rewards action and 24/7 work ethics. They may not know exactly where they are going, but they are definitely making great time!
How about you? Does your team know your vision? Do they connect their everyday activity to it? Do they see your habitual action moving you and them closer to this dream? Are you living your opus?
Are you a “doer” who is leading a bunch of other doers? Do you run your life from your blackberry? Do you run 24/7 from one meeting to another, yet make “decidres” on rare occasions?
Here’s a question all my coaching clients answer eventually. Do you have a big dream for something besides your work? I believe, CORE inspired leaders choose to both dream and do. This makes them both inspiring and real. They have dreams for work and for life. You and I connect with this human. John Gottman sums this up well…”The key will be to uncover and share with each other the significant personal dreams you have for your life. I have found that unrequited dreams are at the core of every gridlocked conflict.”
Dream BIG in work and life. Choose productive action to move you and your teams toward these dreams. We will follow.
