Friday with Pastors and friends. Awesome. Here are the perspectives from MUSTANG John, John, Jon, John and John. We also heard from MUSTANG Kary, Todd, Pete and Chet. Our topic was simple. We read the latest blog and then heard from the ‘Stangs.
John: “Engage and Unleash is what I heard. Maybe that’s because of Asia’s Hope and the work I’m doing there. I don’t know. I think that we are to unshackle and unleash people. However, when I look at my business it is different. I want people to have their own ideas as long as they design…just like me. This is hard. I lose control with mustangs.”
Jon: “I like the concept of being a mustang. I don’t want to be a mule. As a leader I feel the need to unleash the mustang in each of my team members. This is so much harder and at the same time easier than just telling people what to do.”
John: “Sirius radio is like you’re describing. The environment there is all glass offices and the accounting people are rubbing up against the marketing types. The shows are right next to each other. You wonder why. What could these people learn from the accidental meetings between people with so little in common. Somehow it seems to work.”
John: “Won’t it be chaotic and unproductive if we have a team of mustangs going in complete opposite directions. Look at Southwest Airlines…Herb had a vision and everybody bought into it. That seems to be the model and isn’t that contrary to what you’re teaching here?”
John: “Here’s the melody line for me. We spend way too much time around most places just trying to ‘screw’ some ASS! No wonder the world is full of so many ‘half assed’ teams!!”
John above two: “Here’s my melody line. Did you know that mules can’t reproduce? They are sterile. If you want to reproduce leaders you had better surround yourself with MUSTANGS.
MUSTANGS reproduce MUSTANGS. High performance individuals, teams, and leaders build sustainability by reproducing. We are not all the same. We are not a bunch of Johns. We are the best team when we are surrounded by other, unique Jons. We are built to run with other MUSTANGS. We are built to build others. We are built to unshackle people. We are BUILT TO LEAD.
