Two American kids doing the best they can. I love that song by John Mellencamp.
I am reminded of that song by a “couple” from one of my clients. We’ll just call them Jack and Diane to keep it cool.
“Jack” is all about thinking. He has got a ton of plans. Big ones too. He has a BIG dream for his work and life. He is really “thinking” through his options. He is getting ready to act. He will always be “getting ready.”
“Diane” is thinking and acting. She gets it. She has married these two. She is a living example of what I term “reflective action.”
She thought long and hard about what she wanted out of her work. She had some rough conversations with her boss. She went over his head and “caught some serious shit” for doing it. Her words; not mine.
She TOOK a new job at her place of work. She lessened her stress and increased her joy at work. She is all about “done so.”
Jack is STILL thinking about what to do.
Diane has already “done so.”
What are you waiting for?
Why are you waiting?
Why do you need just one more piece of “analytics” before you can make a real ‘decidre?’
We need a little less Jack…
