Reread, Rewrite, Reattribute, Rerun, Rethink, Redo, AND REBUILD…

This weekend has been a primer of sorts. Instead of our normal routine we’ve made some adjustments around here. Sixteen inches of record snowfall will do that.

Instead of my normal riding on saturday mornings followed by soccer and basketball with Tay, I found myself outside with a shovel and a seemingly mountain of SNOW. I began to shovel. The snow kept coming. I continued to shovel. I took a break and watched some hoops with Miss.

As the afternoon wore on I returned to the driveway only to find that my shoveled drive had been “recovered” with snow. The evidence of my work was there, but just barely. I began to “reclaim” my drive as the second shovel was underway. My energy waned before the task was finished. Inside again in search of some energy. This pattern was “repeated” until our cars could get up and down the drive successfully. Done so.

I “returned” to my office and decided with all the “re” in the day that I should continue the pattern. I began to “reread,” for the third time one of my all time favorite books…Learned Optimism, by Martin Seligman. As I turned the pages and began to “recall” the text, I was amazed about how much I had forgotten. The melody line was still there, but so many of the rich nuances were no longer top of mind. I also noticed that this book had none of my writing in it. Some years ago, Larry Allen had encouraged me to read Adler’s book, How to Read A Book, where he encourages the reader to interact, argue, and write in your books. I do this with everything I read NOW. I hadn’t “reread” this book since learning that skill. My “retention” was lessened.

Here’s the melody line “reminder” for and from me.

The Builders Journey will take you places that you’ve never imagined before AND will take you backward to reread, rewrite, reattribute, rerun, rethink, redo, reclaim, redirect, relive, and REBUILD.

BTL Builder’s understand that this journey will be a STRUGGLE and they “remember” that TOGETHER WE IMPROVE.

What book do you want to reread?

What parts of your CORE would benefit your Builder’s Journey the most by your rewriting?

What reattributions in your mind would change your thinking about adversity to something positive?

What movie do want to rewind, rerun, and rewatch?

What problem would benefit from you rethinking it?

What area of life do you want a redo?

What relationships would benefit the most from your rebuilding?

Why?

Why?

Why?

  1. I would not redo any part of my life. While there are ones that I would not do recommend to others but would not change because those collective experiences got me to where I am today and that is place I like.

our lives are full of “re” moments and many of them are unavoidable but some need to be “re”moved. The best example is how we relate to each other and tend to formulate canned responses to people once we have categorized them. There is a quote from Haim Ginott that goes, “Treat a child as though he’s already the person he’s capable of becoming.”

I believe we are all on the journey of “becoming” and should treat each other as if…
