The last two days I had the privilege of holding “practice” with two different teams. Team one was coming off their best month EVER.
EVER!!!
Team two was coming off one of their toughest months EVER. They just went through a sizable reduction in force. Not good…
Both teams had around twenty five of their leaders practicing.
These two teams, on paper, look like they are going in opposite directions. If you were only reading their financial statements you would invest in Team one and sell Team two. You would bank on the trend continuing.
You would be wrong.
Team one and Team two are eerily similar. The financial snapshot does NOT tell the story. If you had shown up at either practice and met either team you would conclude exactly as I have. Both these teams are going in the right direction. Both are being BUILT TO LEAD. Both have young leaders that are grabbing the reins and old dogs that are reinvigorated. Both teams are having new people step up each time we get together. This week it was Denise for Team one, and Trent for Team two. I love it when quiet ones like Trent open up. Very cool.
Both these teams are deliberately practicing. Both are getting better. Both leaders are equally committed to their players. The only real difference between these two teams is that Team two’s leader has ALREADY proven that he has “stones the size of grapefruits.” How else can you explain his commitment to his team in the face of very real adversity. Very cool.
AND, lastly, here’s the biggest similarity. Do NOT miss this. This is HUGE.
Both teams are laughing.
What is your team doing with you?
What is your team seeing when they watch you?
How are you showing your team that you are committed to them?
Tell me more…
