Clear, concise, and direct. AND…

At BTL we believe that master communicators practice speaking what we call “clear, concise, and direct.”  Clarity is where good communications begins.  First the sender must believe what they are saying.  A believer does not stammer around their topic.

Following clarity in a close second is my personal favorite, being concise.  A very clear message becomes less so, oftentimes, with each additional word.  Concise communicators give us an argument but stop short of “proving their point beyond any shadow of doubt.”

Brevity benefits the believer.

Lastly, master communicators are direct.  They tell it like it is.  They hit the topic “head on.”  AND, they speak directly to the subject, the situation, and most importantly to the people for whom the message is intended.  They do not gossip.  They deliver messages to the right audiences.  Very cool.

AND, master communicators, always “and” with this.  Do not miss this.  This may be HUGE…

Transformational leaders are master communicators.  They are clear, concise, and direct.  AND, always with respect.

How are you improving your communications?

Which of the four elements are you mastering, which are you ignoring, which are you in need of improving?

When was the last time you asked your team how you are connecting with them?

What are your ratio’s between speaking and listening with your teammates?

How ’bout with those at home?

  1. Very good questions. i want to be a transformational leader but need serious work in all four areas! The heart and will is in the right spot but how do you start without feeling this is insurmountable?
Perhaps where we start as you have taught me is a strong core; mine is under construction and probably always will be of sorts (i am a remodeler).
maybe being concise is when you really know what you stand for you do not need many words?
Direct in the long run is easier, cut to the quick and get to the meat. I like that.
Master communicator, wow, that sounds way out of my league. Practice, that is how i will do it, a lot of practice and help from my coach.
    Thank you.
