Today my client looked at me and said something I’ve heard so many others say before. Maybe, you have said something similar. Here’s what he asked himself, and me, somewhat rhetorically, I might add. Chet, have you ever asked yourself…
“Why am I working so hard?”
What a loaded question. Here’s the clear, concise, and direct answer. Don’t you love it when answers come quickly and completely.
Hard “OPUS” you and I will sustain while we tire.
Hard labor, even if it’s HIGHly paid labor, you and I will disdain as we tire.
Opus is work the worker loves and wants to master. Labor is work the worker loathes and views as a task. Not a “task to master” but maybe, very much, like a taskmaster.
Opus gives the worker energy. Labor takes the workers energy. They will both pay and they both come with a price. Simple isn’t it. Do you see it?
Life is one big energy management problem. You cannot buy energy. You cannot store energy. You can receive and give energy. AND, every day we can only “work” with the energy we have. My advice, my answer if you will, to our energy management problem is simple but not easy. My advice is free but your acting upon it carries a steep price. Here it is. Do NOT miss this.
Discover and live your Opus.
When you show up at work does the team gain or lose energy?
Are you perceived as a “spark” or a “wet blanket” by your team?
Are you a highly paid laborer or someone who is enriched through living their opus?
Have you integrated your work and life purposes into your “magnum opus?”
Life is HARD.
You and I will tire as we work our way through this thing we call life. No argument here. The problem is that most of us have not gotten clarity around our life’s work. We cannot see our shore. We do NOT have crystal like clarity around why we live and work. AND, when it gets HARD, we scream to ourselves, and sometimes even to other selves…
Why am I THE ONLY ONE working so hard??!!$%*!%
Why are you…
