Stop bailing and start building…

The year was 1942 and a tiny, yet powerful Island was being bombed into submission by the infamous “blitz” from their German enemy.  This turned the wars front line from somewhere “out there,” into the lives and homes of it’s citizens.  This “terror” caused one of Britain’s “amateur’s” to speak out about the pain, the suffering, the problems.  AND, to offer his perspective if you will.  Nothing fancy.  Nothing particularly practical.  Nothing very strategic to the situation.  He simply, he merely, offered his humble opinion about humanity’s peril.

Does that sound relevant today?

The BBC caught wind of his rhetoric and, surprisingly, liked what they heard.  So much so that they asked him to develop a set of speeches to encourage the entire British radio public.  They put this man on the air to encourage all of Britain during their time of immeasurable pain.  He delivered a message of HOPE.  He spoke from his heart and many connected.  We can learn from history.  We oftentimes, simply forget.  Moving on.

The “amateur’s name can NOT be confused with Rush, Obama, Hannity, Maher, or any other voice you may be tuned into today.  He was not and, to this day, is not nearly as popular.  Hmmmm…

I’m NOT sure, but my bet is, that none of these “moderns” are delivering a true message of HOPE we can believe in.  They, it seems to me, have their own agenda.  You may or may not agree.  In fact, what do you think?

Sooooooo today as you look at your world and, maybe, you sense that your “comfort zone” has been bombarded and blitzed by forces beyond your control.  I offer you to tune into a new station.  You won’t find this one on your AM,FM,XM dial.  You won’t find this one on your cable or your satellite network.  This voice is not on facebook, linked in, or any other social site you may be “tuned” toward.

This voice belongs to a DEAD man.  You can, however, still hear him.

You see, the BBC liked his message so much back in 1942-1944 that the speeches were quickly published into three distinct books that subsequently combined as ONE. The title of the ONE…

Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis.

What do you believe in?

What are you tuned toward?

What is your plan for surviving and thriving through our economic blitz?

Stop looking for your personal bailout plan and start building your strong CORE.  The time is always right now.  Start building now.  AND, remember that what we’re experiencing today, humanity has experienced before, and a whole lot more.

Thanks for your attention…

  1. It is interesting to me the differences between the societies: the 1942 popular media (BBC) went to Lewis for wisdom and insight in a time of crisis – the society looked inward, a time for introspection and personal reflection leading to questions about purpose and Truth. Compared to our current crisis and our current society’s hunger for words of “Hope” – our society looks to the Government, Hollywood, or Omaha for wisdom. Lewis vs. Obama, Oprah and Buffet.
Maybe it is the scale of the crisis that determines the depth of a human’s reaction. World War II was a much worse crisis than this modern recession, could that account for the differences in reactions? Lewis wrote: “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
The more intense the pain, the more attentive we are to His call and conscious of our frailty? This makes me think of the Piper book, “Don’t Waste Your Cancer.” Maybe you should write a new book, “Don’t waste the recession.”
