Brothers, partners, and the point of the spear…

Today I observed the power of a partner.  At just past 7 bells I watched a “collection” of two becoming one as Natalie and Joshua shared their recently written worldview statements. Their eyes sparkled as they listened intently to each other.   Magic.

A few hours later I observed this same power between two partners at a place of work.  They also are a “collection.”  The difference is that they are NOT moving toward one another.  Sadly, this collection is all too common.

As the clock struck noon, I engaged with another “collection.”  This time the collection involved a father and some sons.  This collection is getting there, just not nearly as quickly as the head would have hoped.  This too is a common predicament.  Oftentimes, the collection stops short simply because the partners grow impatient before they grow into ONE.  Transforming takes time.

As the hour turned past the mid-point I engaged with another “collection” where we, the BTL band, are actively engaged.  This collection is making great strides and, as always, we want even more.

 Remember, we push the hardest where we believe they have been building the necessary hardiness.

This collection has what it takes.  They are building unity beyond their bond as brothers.  They are building unity throughout their teams.  This transformation is a long, hard, climb.  And, both brothers are in it.  Oddly, I didn’t much notice their growth, nor did I much notice their transformation.  Why?

Simple.

I couldn’t take my eyes off my brother.  He is not only transforming this team through his real, hard work; he is transforming OURS.  We only work with our family, friends, and clients to the extent that we have worked ourselves.  Remember, no one can lead another further than he or she has traveled up the trail.

How simple.  How complex.  How cool is that? 

Magic.

Remember:  At BTL our purpose is simple and most complex.  Here it is.  This is the defining statement of our work.  Every week, I mean every week, this is why we get after it.  This is why we exist.

We exist to transform a collection of individuals, teams, and leaders into ONE.  ONE, that is BUILT TO LEAD.

Unity.  Power.  The point of the spear.  This is the heart of performance.
