Your voice is the one…

Today, one of my clients made a discovery.  He found something that he had been looking for, he just didn’t know it.  His discovery will not stop with his initial strike. This discovery keeps giving and giving and giving.  Especially when it comes to confidence, conviction, and contentment.  What did he discover?

He discovered his voice.  His authentic leadership voice.  At BTL we believe that all of us are called to some combination of two polar extremes.  We refer to this combo as “Curious George and my way is the highway.”

Transformational leaders are curious.  They ask great, inquisitive questions.  When they are in the dark, they ask for others help.  No one is as smart as everyone.

Transformational leaders are also clear, concise, and direct.  When they know what they want and where they are going, they tell us.  AND, they do not threaten us with their clarity.  Instead their clarity invites us toward their highway.  No one asks when they know the way home.

In both instances the team is welcomed to influence and nuance the leaders course.  This produces a team that is involved, engaged, and energized.  AND, a leader that is authentic.  Very cool.

Some leaders will lean toward the curious George.  Some, not so much.  Some will lean toward my way is the highway.  Some, not so much.  When a BTL leader discovers his voice, his leanings will follow his strong CORE and will “feel” right.

Today, as I listened to my client, I simply told him that I heard him.

His voice.

His version.

His ratio of curious George and my way is the highway.

His language.

His song.

I could hear some form of desperation leaving his breath.  Very cool.

Have you found your voice?

Is your voice attracting, distracting, or attacking those around you?

Are you trying to sound like someone you admire, someone you have heard before, or someone, anyone really besides YOU?

Are you finding yourself filled with larger doses of confidence, conviction, and contentment?

Tell me more, my friend.

Tell me more…
