Back in the saddle…

This past thursday I returned from my longest holiday.  I had never taken one beyond two weeks and that only once.  This time, in celebration of my 50th, I decided to take THREE.

AMAZING.

Here’s what I learned.  Do NOT miss this.

Vacations are like life.  They are imperfect even when they are excellent.  They, and we, will simply always be flawed.  Expect nothing else.

AND, keep dreaming and doing anyway.  Vacations may recharge you, amaze you, push you, fill you, and provide you with some kiaros moments.  This one did for me.   AND, if you pay attention, they will also provide you with an opportunity to see your own comfort zone, challenge zone, and panic zone with uncommon clarity.  This can be priceless…

Slow down and reflect.  Take a moment and let those thoughts rush in before rushing on…

I believe, great lives are lived by individuals that are constantly pushing themselves out of the comfort zone and toward the edges of their challenge zone.  The ALPS challenged me.  The physical challenge was well beyond my comfort.  There were multiple moments where the decision to turn back was real.  The pain would stop if I would only turn the wheel.  I kept going, just really slowly!  Coordinating 7 adults and young adults through France, challenged me.  Running with my 13 year old flamed my knees and lower back up, but only for a few days.  The pain subsided and by the last day we actually had a great run together, instead of great runs alone.  Together, we improved.

I’m back.  I’m fresh.

I’m ready for your challenges.  See you soon…

  1. Kale,

We road about a dozen of the most famous Alpine climbs including Madeline, Galibier, and Alpe d’ Huez. The most beautiful one was L’ Iseran. Every cyclist has got to go there at least once…
