This has been a great week already even though there’s still another day and a half to go. The cool thing about this great week is that it’s NOT been an outstanding week, or month for that matter, in terms of measurable results. It’s just been amazingly energizing. Here’s why.
The recipe for sustaining strong results is somewhat surprising. First, it starts with where NOT to focus. Stop focusing on results.
Period.
Try thinking back to your best round of golf, your best presentation, your most effortless creative moment, your best time writing or riding, and here’s what you will likely recount. You weren’t thinking about anything. You were lost in the moment and the result was the furthest thought from your mind. Very cool.
If we don’t focus on results when we’re at our best, what exactly are we thinking of? Good question.
Here’s the truth. High performers, when performing at their peak, are lost in their work. The mind is focused exclusively on the task at hand. They are locked into their target and they don’t notice the distractions, the noise, or anything but exactly what they are performing. LOST in their work. This person has, for the moment, perfect alignment between their head, heart, and hands. Their mind is clear, their heart is whole, and their hands are busy. Their mind is clear of worry about the future, their heart is whole-heartedly into performing the task that they LOVE, and their hands are busy but somehow moving in perfect concert with the rest of their body. These performers make the mundane look majestic. The complex appears to be completed with ease. Magic.
This week, I had the chance to be there when a few clients experienced peak performance moments. They were aligned internally between their head, heart, and hands. This internal alignment gave them incredible energy. This energy gave them exactly what was required to transform their practice toward perfection. Never perfect, but never settling. Content and, at the same moment, very challenged. This is the recipe for sustaining strong performances in work and life. Very cool.
Remember, the recipe.
Internal alignment is first. This creates incredible amounts of energy. This energy sustains the long hours of practice, in your challenge zone, that enable excellence.
Magic.
How’s your internal alignment?
Are you looking forward to ending another energy filled week or just ready for the week to end?

Without this kind of INTERNAL ALIGNMENT of belief & love & vision & purpose for what I’m doing, I’ve realized I’m just going through the motions of life half-believing, half-brained, half-hearted — half-MAN & half-MULE (aka “half-ASS”).
