I was reading along in one of my books about how the brain works when Joshua and Natalie arrived.
Late.
I hadn’t even noticed. We smiled and laughed. Brett arrived next and he smiled and headed up to the counter for some coffee. Next came Todd, I believe. He mentioned there had been an accident on I 270 and that was “why” he had run so late. Kary wondered in next and away we went. Everybody wanted to know about Sunday and his experiment. Joshua and Natalie fired away with questions just as Johnnythegurue came on the scene. We added a couple more chairs around the table and didn’t miss a beat.
I told the team about my discovery at Kary’s services and everybody was starting to get “lit.” You could feel the positive energy growing and flowing as Peteboy pulled up his chair. He had arrived really late and nobody even cared.
We were all just glad he had come.
Kary had his notebook out and was describing his teaching for this week. It was going to be different yet similar to last week. He had super creative ideas that he was going to build upon and through it all he was aiming to ensure that those in attendance, would be INVOLVED.
The other half of my egg burrito was just sitting there. It was right in the middle of our little table that was now completely surrounded by books, notebooks, eager faces, and open minds. Then…
M&M arrived.
He had a sandwich in hand and it was only 9am. Yea, Baby. I pointed to my egg burrito and he grabbed it with both hands. He eyed it over and admired the eggs, the cheese, and the vegetables. He inhaled it and enjoyed every bite. He joined in the discussion the same way. The only way he knows how.
Completely.
While M&M and his egg were becoming one, Johnnythegurue was “taking it all in” and his face told me his brain, unlike M&M’s stomach, was just about full. He has the habit of really hearing, hearing, hearing and processing internally. Like a banchee. I am always calling him out. Once you call his name, you never regret it. There is so much going on in there that it never disappoints when he finally flaps his jaws. I don’t share his processing predicament. Just the opposite is true for me. I get more clarity the more I “flapjaw” out loud or the more I “flapjaw” my thoughts out on paper. I can feel the clarity come and wash over me like a tidal wave oftentimes right in the middle of uttering the words. Isn’t that crazy…
Today, like most every day, it was crazy good.
Joshua spoke wisdom into Kary. Gurue spoke wisdom into Brett. Pete spoke wisdom into Kary. Natalie spoke wisdom into all of us. And, nobody kept score. Nobody held back. Nobody was afraid of being open and vulnerable. AND, everybody learned from somebody. Very cool.
Everybody agreed to ACT on what they had learned. Nobody agreed because of another’s influence or power. Nobody agreed out of fear.
Nope.
This is the way of the mustang. This is why we keep coming on Friday’s to hang together. We keep coming because we want to tell our stories to humans with whom we are connected. We keep coming because we know that TOGETHER we improve. We keep coming because we know that coming always gives us energy and ideas. We keep coming because we are experiencing real community…
Here.
Yes, we keep coming because our hearts are in this work and with these people…
Wouldn’t it be crazy if that were true of those that came to work with you?
Wouldn’t it be crazy good if that were true for why you went to work?
Wouldn’t it be crazy cool if that were the way you felt about going home?
Wouldn’t it be crazy good if you believed that your God wanted your whole heart, not so he could break it, but so HE could fill it?
Wouldn’t it be crazy what could be done if we were truly FULL?
Wouldn’t it be a crazy cool world if you and I were “dreaming and doing” with a community like I enjoyed today?
Tell me more, my friend.
Tell me more…
