Remember, this is what will make you happy…

I just started out of my office, ready to move onto the next task of the day.  Nothing big, mind you.  BTW, is it ever?

BIG, that is…

My eye caught a small book that was out of place on the long credenza beneath our picture window.  I made the quick decision to postpone my trip out of the office and, for a brief moment, gave my attention to this little book.  As I walked toward the book and noticed it’s author, I couldn’t believe my good fortune.

The book was written by our daughter, Kristi, and was titled , My Fourth Grade Memories.  It had been written in, you guessed it, the year 2000.

A decade ago.

Ten, very brief years ago.  The book transported me back in time and I could feel the memories just as vividly as I felt the pages turning in my hands.  My heart filled. Krits is a part of my magnum Opus, she is a piece to my puzzle, and remembering our time together isn’t just some form of nostalgia, although that it is.  It is, however, much more.

The next big deal is NOT what will make you happy.  The next million will NOT be enough.  The next new outfit will lose its luster.  The next big house will soon be too big and the next big promotion won’t be EVERYTHING you had hoped for.

It just won’t.

For me, here is a piece of what will.  For me, remembering my time with those that I love, gives me a boost of energy and helps me keep my mind, my time, and my attention toward those very same people and the pursuits that will lead me toward authentic happiness.  The places we’ll go, young Krits, the things we’ll see, the times we’ll share, the people we’ll become, those will be the days to remember.  You are a part of my purpose for being and any time with you, is time well spent.

AND, sharing these memories with you is what makes me happy.

KRITTTTTSSSSS…

It just does.
