Victorious Village…

Sunday I was inspired visiting two of my clients at their place of work.

Their Church.

Miss, Taylor, and I wandered down to The Victorian Village and attended Village Vineyard yet again.  We can’t seem to stay away.  It is, however, a long way from home. It’s also a ways out of our comfort zone.  Nor does it seem like a good fit for our “structure and order” loving son.  And yet it keeps drawing us in.  Funny, huh.

Yesterday we watched and listened to a crazy good experiment gone wild. They took my phrase, “just this side of chaos” and pushed it to the proverbial edge.  It was so cool and so crazy at the same time.  It just was.  At one point I thought it might have been too risque for our 14 year old.  That thought, however, was quickly replaced by the realization that what better place for our son to hear about “making LOVE” than in a place that oozed it…

LOVE that is.

A dozen “Pastors” taught yesterday and unlike most Sunday’s or Monday’s for that matter, my recall was razor sharp.  They all seared me and just about any body that was there.  Joshua and Natalie have let go and their team is NOT about to let them down.  Just the opposite, in fact.  The team is turning up and the vibe is victorious more so than Victorian.  They may have to rename the village.  A more appropriate moniker would be Victorious Village.  Very cool.

As I came home today after a beautiful day in four different systems, I was struck by something oddly similar…

The BTL Band of Builders.

Reading our recent blog posts inspires me beyond belief.  What started out as my experiment back in 2006 has turned out nearly 600 posts now and the cool thing is that the entire band is playing.  AND, really playing well.  There is NOT just one builder or two.  Everyone is participating and pushing really cool ideas in really positive ways.  We are experiencing “just this side of chaos” too.  Yea, BABY.

Soon, thanks to Builder Sully and his fervor for building a better website, you will all benefit from a better, more informative BTL website.  He’s done this because he has a passion and a belief that we can do better.  He’s right.   We are…

All ONE and we are NOT alone.

At BTL our tagline isn’t a slogan.  Nope, its not.  Our tagline is what we are attempting to live ourselves, and what we hope to inspire in our families, friends, and clients. It’s a really simple concept and yet one that is really rare in the world of work and sadly even more so in that place we call “life.”  Here it is.  Our tagline…

Together we improve.

Thanks Joshua,Natalie and your crazy band for the Sunday spirit.  AND, thanks BTL Band for more of the same.  Very cool and very blessed.

  1. Chet,
You are such an encouragement!! I love the lense that you see through. I learn and grow so much just by getting your perspective on a shared experience. Joshua and I are so so blessed by the incredible investment you’re making in us. Your generosity is inspiring. It was sweet to listen to you honor your father in our last session, I sat there thinking that you’re so much like him in all the ways that you were lifting up. Thank you for sharing your life with us. We are so blessed to have you as a coach and as a friend. It was really great to look out and see you guys Sunday. We love having you. We love you!

  2. dear chet
i always think of the movie weird science when i hear your name. i was the one speaking of making love and after i got finished speaking, i really felt like i had crossed a line even though i was speaking from the heart. i did receive much validation from others afterwards that my sincerity came through and i think that it was important for the single women in our church to hear that honesty. just like the rehearsing that went on in my mind about what i would say at edge venture was snuffed out, the same just came out of me last sunday in that victorious service. i grew up in a robotic christian environment and i never witnessed true honesty in my church so it caused me to rebel. it seemed like the bad influences in my life were always willing to cross the line and that attracted me to rebellion. i am 41 now and finally feel like a new creation after edgeventure. i sincerely hope that your son is o.k. and that i did not offend you or your family. my marriage and physical intimacy is what God healed and I just spoke from the heart.

  3. Hey Clark,
You spoke from your HEART. AND, the obvious and really cool part was that we could all tell that your heart was FULL. You were not rebelling, you were not playing it safe and conforming, you were letting it rip because you were speaking with commitment.

Thank you for your note and for your HEART. The world needs more people to cross the line with Jesus as their guide…
