On the side I lead a few faith-based men’s groups and one of the topics we’ve landed on is the idea of “self sabotage.”
Whatever your faith, perhaps you can relate to the idea. “Sabotage” comes from the french/dutch word for ‘shoe’ — to ‘sabotage’ something used to mean literally to throw your wooden shoes into the machinery to shut down the gears of the system. In our culture, we’re familiar with this term as a tactic of pre-union workers, using the only power they had to slow down or disrupt production as a way of getting management’s attention.
Most people & most leaders I know readily identify and admit they are battling ‘self-sabotage’. We see it as DOING things we don’t really wish to do somehow against our will, or NOT doing the things that may actually lead to greatness. The results are playing small, mediocrity, feeling perpetually discredited, guilt, self-loathing, etc. etc. etc.
The “big WHY” is evasive. That’s my challenge for you to consider in this blog. Give yourself the gift of time and WRITE about the why? Why? WHY?
And then watch this clip — warning — you may find a powerful emotional response to it. When I’m ‘self-sabotaging’ it’s usually because I’ve forgetten something deep within my core. . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maARmxjj3f0
In the clip, also look for the role of the fellow builder. “Together we Improve” is more than just our tagline.
Tell me more. . .

Great stuff Johnny. AND, remember your secret name is…
