Yesterday I felt weak.
Day two of our cycling adventure and my legs stopped wanting to turn the cranks. I called for the car. At mile 87, I threw in the towel. I was spent, more mentally even then physically. The ride had not gone according to plan. We had gotten lost, which I love, but this time we had gotten really lost and ended up on dirt roads. We hadn’t gotten in the climbing that I wanted, we hadn’t established any type of consistent pace, and I began to lose interest in just putting in the miles to hit a 100. We still had a great day, riding and pushing ourselves, but it wasn’t what I wanted and neither was my performance. I felt weak from the midpoint to the end and hadn’t mastered my mind to keep turning the cranks.
This is so true for us leaders. Some days we feel weak. Some days we need to call for help. Some days we need to mid-course correct and go with the flow, even create the flow when there doesn’t seem to be any around.
Today we’re heading out for another test. I understand that all my days will not come off as planned. I understand that all my days will not feel like strong ones. AND, I still know that is my aim and my target for all those that I have the privilege to serve.
Remember, give and take care my friend.
Give and take care…
