Tough times don’t last, tough people do. This was the fighting mantra for one of my clients. Key word here is “was.” Today, I met with the head of this system and had another really productive session. Here’s the bottom line, if you will, to our time together. We decided that this mantra needs amending. It’s an incomplete truth. The real truth is this…
Tough times don’t last, tough people do, if they make the tough decisions before they “have to.”
The leader of this system is going to model the way, earn his moral authority, and LOVE the team enough to tell them the unvarnished truth. He is going to be with them. He is going to make some really tough decisions that will be personally quite painful. He’s going to show them how to do this by his model, by his example, and by leading from his strong CORE. AND, he’s going to remind them, for the thousandth time, where their headed and why it’s worth laboring toward.
Today, we made some progress. We touched on the second essential and found that we could use some more weight in our keel. This system is weathering some rough weather. Aren’t you?
Are you more interested in the size of your sail or going down below and investing in real weight in your keel?
Have you taken the time to build before the storm, or are you simply hoping for clear sailing in the coming days?
Have you grown tired of telling the team where we’re going or are you embracing the fact that you will always be in the “reminding” business?
Do you believe the fact that most moral teachers do very little instructing?
Remember, the greatest moral teachers mostly remind us.
Funny, huh?
