The bar is not the same for all of us. It’s just NOT.
Our objective, as leaders, is to hold our entire team to the same bar. This builds TRUST. This is the heart of performance. Period.
The bar, however, is not the same for all of us. Huh?
Here’s what I mean…
In the eyes of your team, here’s what they see. They see a higher bar for their boss than they see for themselves. They see a higher bar for their bosses boss, than they see for their boss. They see a higher bar for their V.P. than they see for their bosses boss. AND, they see an even higher bar for you if your name is Mr. or Ms. CEO.
They just do.
AND, they can’t believe that you don’t see what’s really going on in your organization. They can’t believe that you aren’t stepping up to some real problems, and some real problem “children.” Around the water cooler they ruminate with their “teammates,” and they wish their CEO were someone else. They just do. Don’t miss this. This is huge.
This is why we love our President elect, but not so much the one we elected. This is why the character of our leader really matters.
The bar, remember, is much higher for the head of the system. It just is. This is the responsibility of leadership. Remember, the higher you rise in any system, the more your underbelly is exposed. Keep the right secrets. Admit your mistakes. Love your team enough to trust them with the truth. AND, hold all of them to the same bar. CEO character, like this, is what you want spreading through your system. Embrace this REAL, HARD, WORK.
This is another ingredient to becoming ONE.
Do you see it?
What are you tolerating that doesn’t align with what you believe?
Where are you giving yourself the “benefit of the doubt?”
Why?
