I read Walk On, by Steve Stockman 9 years ago. I had just started BTL and was looking for some ammunition to convince one of my first clients to work on his CORE. In reading this book, I definitely found what I was looking for. This morning, I grabbed the book and realized that I hadn’t written the first word in it. I had read this book before Larry, my builder, had taught me how to read a book.
So Larry, today I re-read and wrote like a banshee to boot. And, today, this book gave me some more material. Like you always told me, “There’s no such thing as good writing, only good re-writing. AND, any book worth learning from takes six times to get the essence of the author.”
I’m learning, slowly.
Here’s something that spoke to me from the book during read number two.
“To U2 and most thoughtful artists, the problem with Christians is the Church has for many years taught people what to think and not how to think. Everything has to be explained in such linear terms…Bono seems to have thought it important to throw out clues to the rest of the Christians who were not getting it. In the video cartoon for ‘Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me,’ McPhisto is knocked to the ground by a car, and a book flies out of his hand. The camera follows the book, which hits the ground, and the front of the book says, ‘The Screwtape Letters – C.S. Lewis.”

Amen through my smiles. Amen, brother.
And not just the Church, but isn’t that true of most power hierarchies? Unorthodox thinking? Gasp! That threatens the orthodoxy, which is the worldview of those in power. The edifice slowly crumbles, though, as rising education levels and access to information and sharing technologies reveal and broadcast the thoughts of the free thinkers. Whether it’s Mubarak or General Motors, the days of dominating hierarchies are numbered. History.
This depends, of course, on how willing the people are to wake up to their responsibility, find their hearts and voices to serve one another with the unique gifts of every individual, and bring about a new future. I am a willing part of that freedom plan, under the will of the author of history. Walk On!
