My client this morning described the condition of his business as “being in a squall.” He’s in between waves, he said. The next six months, he continued, are going to be a “moment of truth” for us.
I flipped my ipad around, pulled a little Captain Sullenberger and had him read a piece from the BTL melody line missing piece. I asked him why Sully landed safely on the Hudson and his fellow USsir pilots torched the earth when flying the exact scenario on the simulator.
“Sully trusted his instincts,” he replied without thinking too much. Why, I responded. He thoughtfully concluded that he didn’t know but was guessing that it was due to his experience and the lack thereof from those that returned nose first. I asked him to extrapolate to his next six months and why he will or will not trust his instincts. It grew a bit quieter. Always does when one of my clients is doing what they’ve been trained to do best…
Think.
This client is midway through authoring his OPUS and it’s gonna be a good one. He will be popping it by this October and by the beginning of 2012 he will have developed the discipline of dreaming and doing in the direction of his overarching vision and in alignment with his purpose. He will be building the kinda track record for himself that will give him the confidence to make more and more decisions and to make more and more of them…
NOW.
Most every system is in between waves as we speak. 2008 rolled in and 2012 looks like a wave to ride, if we can only get to it intact.
Author your OPUS, PoP it with discipline, and convert your CORE into your sCORE. There is never the time. Author it anyway and I’ll see you in between the waves. I will be with you and so will be the waves AND the smooth waters…
