You know him as Chet. . . I know him as Toto — here’s why
Those whom we luv have nicknames. If you know Toto well, u have one that he gave u. B/c he understands their POWER.
Of course u remember Wizard of Oz.
What u forget is that it starts with the town leader — Miss Gulch — coming to collect the dog who BIT her. DARED to speak truth to her when everyone else cowered. The conflict in the movie begins when the MAN Uncle Henry pusses out. . . and when Aunt EM can’t speak the TRUTH b/c she believe s that would compromise her worldview (sad side conversation for later).
So Dorothy LEAVES the team to protect Toto.
And FINDS her core.
Toto is just ONE of her builders. She becomes the builder of the scarecrow, the tin man and the cowerdly lion. Toto is under the radar. . . but really the hero of the whole story. Even at the end when he jumps back in the window at the part of the story that would not have happened if he had not gotten lost. . . forcing Dorothy to rediscover the power at her CORE . . .
Do NOT miss this.
She could NOT go back to the place that “there is no place like home” if SHE had not changed.
THANK u Toto for being yourself. AND for inspiring us to LEAVE our current state EVEN if it is to come back to somewhere we THOUGHT was the problem when our REAL problem was US. . .not our current STATE.
So if some Miss Gulch has put you in a basket. . . follow Toto. DARE to jump out. BE who u r. AND inspire others to do the same.

Great post, Johnnie Boy! A lot of cool metaphor in that story. Of course, you’d expect me to add this:
1.) Dorothy, who represented the need for CHARACTER development, self-discipline and mastery of her impetuousness, gains the help of…
2.) the Scarecrow who, though “lacking a brain,” represented COMPETENCE and wisdom as he came up with all the good solutions to their various dilemmas. Then they together meet up with…
3.) the Tinman, who though lacking a heart, embodied emotional CONNECTION, love, and justice. And, of course, they all encounter…
4.) the Cowardly Lion, who represented the growth of COURAGE and fortitude by acting in the face of his considerable fears.
Who knew that Frank Baum would use Aristotle and St. Paul as his ghost writing team for The Wizard of Oz?
Great “and” from Sully and thanks for the kind thoughts young Gurue. I’m beginning to identify with this name you keep calling me and with the idea that I just gotta keep jumping out of my basket. Funny, huh.
See you both on the road…
and here I thought you called him Toto because they looked alike and they are always biting you.
