Build within…

Humans, as we’ve evolved over the ages have made some amazing strides. From the discovery of fire to the invention of the furnance we have tamed the flame, so to speak. We’ve gone from building huts for shelter from the cold and rain, to buildings that provide shelter even when it rains bombs from airplanes.

Every day, it seems, we gain more and more control over our physical world. Why is it then, that we’ve gained so little ground over human nature? Why is it that we see such a repeitive history to humanities self inflicted wounds? Why is it that we will conquer cancer before we conquer miscommunications?

Today, focus on becoming weird. Stop doing what comes naturally; being self centered and other controlling. Build your “second nature,” and start becoming CORE centered, and self controlling.

Stop doing what comes naturally, quickly, and without effort, like popping pills, stuffing your face, cursing your coworker, and cutting corners. Start planking your butt off, building your disciplines, harnessing your anger, and standing for something principled. Mom always said, “nothing worth possessing, comes easily.” Gaining control of your nature won’t come easily but it’s an aim worth pursuing. And, each hard fought victory within builds you up for the battles ahead. Build within, my friend. Build within.

Second nature, remember, is the ONE you want…

  1. I agree with your observations Chet. The question is HOW you can overcome your “first nature”, your natural instinct. Often we “try harder”, “get more disciplined”, etc. To change from the inside out requires a supernatural transformation….one that I believe can only come from the holy spirit. The importance of your beliefs and world view have monumental consequences in trying to achieve the “second nature” to which you refer. Otherwise, I believe we will have short term progress but long term frustration.

  2. Agreed. It matters not a little, but a great deal, what believes you bolt into the framework of your CORE. You and I both agree that a moment of surrender to our creator is the beginning of deep, lasting, second natures. Keep building within…
