A master builder I am NOT…

I recently met with an old client that has made the decision to become a new one.  He has come back for more clarity.  Here’s what I’ve learned from our reunion.

As my daughter, Krits, would say, “It sucks to suck.”  Here’s what I mean.  When I began my practice back in 2002 I took on new clients, gave them the 12 8 4 BTL framework, met with them every couple of weeks or even less and was amazed at how few of them “got it.”  As I explained to my new, oldie this morning, it was the equivalent of teaching novices to play the violin by introducing them to Beethoven’s 5th and telling them to listen to it and start practicing it.  Very little music would be played and a whole lot of overwhelming would be going on.

A master builder I am NOT.

I am learning to help my clients “chunk” out their learning by showing them where we’re going and why.  I want them to clearly see where we’re going and gain energy for the enormity and worthiness of the task. And, I force them to work on the most important pieces and finish them one step at a time.  As I am learning to follow this discipline, more and more of my clients are starting to play some really fine tunes of their own.  Turns out they weren’t the real problem.  Funny, huh…

Want some better clients in 2012, become a better builder and create some margin by firing some that take your energy.  Want a few transformational relationships, become a better listener and find your voice.  Want a stronger core, build your discipline to plank it out especially when you don’t feel like it and focus on helping somebody next to you.  STOP looking for painfree solutions, there are none.  AND, choose your pain.  Make sure and choose the acute and not the chronic.

And, don’t be overwhelmed by the last paragraph.  It wasn’t written for you unless you’ve already authored your OPUS, PoP, and sCORE.  Yea, baby.

A master builder I am NOT, and a master builder I am becoming…

  1. But M&M is. I know it. It says so on the sign in front of his office.

Rinse & repeat and repeat and try something new and rinse and repeat and so on…

    Keep going, Chet. Keep going.

    Your pal…
