First things first…

Yesterday a client of mine made a “decidre” (a decision to cut off options) that will lead to his mental health. We are all in desperate need of mental health, aren’t we.

He decided to focus on what he can control and STOP focusing on what he cannot. He decided that he would “lose his mind” if he kept trying to make his firm great without, first, making himself great. So, he is going to quit; trying, that is. He is going to quit trying to do what he cannot do. Excellence, you see, is always started individually before it can spread to a team, an organization, a community, or even a country. My client, therefore, is making a rational decidre. He is deciding to work on making his practice of work, exceptional.

He is following C.S. Lewis and doesn’t even know it. Lewis believed that “putting first thing first doesn’t make second things less; it makes them more.”

Your company, your community, your family, and our country will get better when you and I decide to get better ourselves. We have become a nation of victims. We have become a nation that was once strong and is now very, very sick. We will NOT get healthy by embracing Obomacare or voting in Mitt. They are not the answer. You and I, sorry, are the only hope we have. We have got to get better ourselves. We have to grab the reins and take responsibility for making our little piece of the puzzle a better piece of the puzzle. I could go on, I’ll STOP…

Today, get a bit more mentally healthy. Make a decision to build your “twenty square feet” a bit stronger. Build yourself stronger. Build excellence in your cube, your office, your home, or your community. You will feel better and your team actually just got better. Your country just got better too. Funny, huh…

  1. So true Chet. Every year, our approval rate of Congress goes down. It’s at a record low right now. Here’s the catch: they REPRESENT us. In a democracy, the people get exactly the leaders they deserve. This country will improve, and our leaders will improve, and our institutions will improve, when we the people “decidre” to improve.
