Unplug…

Our website is gone. We killed it this week. I am really glad it’s dead. Our blog is very much alive and our one on one practices and our “one on a few” practices are on fire. Folks are getting lit in the best sense of that word.

The world, however, is becoming less BTL with every passing day. Humans are becoming more machine like and “plugged in” to the Matrix. Relationships are suffering from a real lack of connection. Our teens can tell you more than you want to know about Manti and next to nothing about a moral dilemma.

This produces a tax on the system. Humans perform their best work when and where they feel connected. Historically these connections led us to perform best in our neighborhoods, our homes, and our places of work. Today’s workers are more likely to pay attention to who follows them on twitter and feel more connected virtually to some fantasy league than a league of their own. Funny, huh.

Today, build connections at home, in your hood, and with your team at work. Be unproductive, in a good kinda way. Put away your analytics. Give your hourly store report a rest. Unplug from the scorecard on your screen.

Unplug.

Remember, the highest performing teams throughout history share one thing in common much more valuable than you tend to think. The machine cannot make sense of this. The highest performing teams actually like each other. And, high performers really like it when their leader gets tired with them.

Go. Be with your team. Get tired with them. Who knows, you may even start to like them. Your performance just might depend on it…
