I’ve been up studying for the past three hours and writing for an additional one. Seems like a couple minutes. Recently I’ve been disecting the film, Flight starring Denzel Washington as a calm, competent, in control kinda Airline Captain who is also a completely out of control alcoholic who can’t “get straight” without whipping up a cocktail of cocaine, tobacco, and H2O. He is a chemical mess nobody knows.
Remember, we are all a house divided.
Please, let that thought sink in. You and I can’t get straight, you see, until we come clean. Even the best among us, the very best, are flawed. We are broken people in need of repair. This is why we are such busy people. Busy people don’t have time to slow down and look in the mirror. Busy people have an excuse. Pascal was right so long ago. Humans biggest problem is “we don’t know how to go quietly to our room, ALONE…”
Some humans hide the cracks better than others. Most humans enjoy the experience of having their house collapse in the privacy of their own home or, at worst, in the secluded space of a trained professional. A few, due to celebrity of their own making or their position of power and prominence, experience collapse in front of the camera, so to speak. Their collapse brings gasps, disgust, and demands justice. The public’s trust has been violated. Somebody must pay.
The truth is that we’ve all got cracks in our foundations. Instead of reading about others in People, Us, or some other source, I suggest you and I head down our own stairs, if you will, to our interior space; our CORE. Like Whip (Denzel) we need to slow down to really take flight. You don’t want to be flying high with a screw loose, now do ya?
Thanks, Captain Kirk, for sharing. Together we improve. Together we improve…
