Few addicts recover from their addiction. Most relapse. Retention is low regardless the approach; attrition ranges from high to higher.
Few humans reach their potential. Most settle somewhere around “better than most,” at least in their mind.
Few stick to their diet, their exercise, their spiritual life, or their childhood friends. Eventually, the majority lose heart. They relapse, settle, or simply STOP. Inside they all say something very much like this…
“I’m done with this!”
BUILT TO LEAD has been around now over eleven years. Almost all our clients come and go. Most go back to their old leadership habits. Most settle well below their peak. They all tell me, when they break the news to me, that BTL has been the greatest, but, they need some time to work on the basics, they can’t afford it any longer, they feel we’ve reached a plateau, or the best one is that they’ve stopped believing their team is capable of becoming BTL. Funny, huh…
And, here’s the funniest part, they almost to a man tell me that they’re coming back. The truth is they are very much done with this; they just lack the balls to say it. pa (passive aggressive), remember, is the norm.
In eleven years, one return. The vast majority do nothing. A few dabble around from program to program. Most simply STOP.
The melody line for the addict and the high performer are the same. Just show up. Just show up. Keep showing up. Keep showing up. You, my friend, will not keep getting better on your own. Together we improve is an ancient truth. As long as you and I keep doing one thing regardless the gig.
Show up…

Chet, Just wanted you to know that this post resonated with me. Having just been challenged by Kary O. a few days before to step up my game, I saw this post and it encouraged me more. Thanks for reminding me to keep showing up.
