Today, I reminded my client of the Greek Agog. He needed this reminder; you may as well. He was feeling some resistance from within his system and it had surprised him. The very people he’s trying to help were attempting to sabotage his well intentioned efforts, he explained to me with just a hint of anxiety in his voice. I stopped him mid-sentence. Treat it as normal, natural, and noise, I told him. All systems, remember sabotage the very people sent to save ’em. Study history and you’ll see this truth played out time and time again. Expect sabotage from within and even from well intended but fearful teammates. And, of course, expect plenty of sabotage from competitors, enemies, and outsiders of all kinds. From within, however, is sometimes the toughest to take. Expect it. Anticipate it. Think of this as your personal anti-anxiety pill.
It is.
Resistance from within and without your system is normal, natural, and mostly noise. Treat it as such. Greet it like the Spartans taught their young to do. Greet it with laughter. Deflect it. Don’t let it in. And, when you develop this mental discipline, your resistors will see their fear returned to them unopened, if you will. Instead of you accepting their fear package, send it back unopened and wrapped with laughter. Nothing STOPs resistance quicker than a bunch of “return to sender” unopened packages. Do NOT make the mistake of accepting anothers fear based resistance. Return to sender, my friend. Return to sender…
