Practice 69 and practice 2 for you…

The next practice with team Choice will be practice 69. The next practice for team Choice will be practice number 2 for Chelsea and Erica. This presents a very common problem for high performance teams everywhere. How do leaders develop the habit of slowing down and integrating the newbies, all while not losing touch with those that have “been there, done that?”

High performance leaders develop the habit of “anding.” They slow down for the new. They develop the habit of forcing their own mind to try to remember what it was like before they knew what they now take for granted. And, they challenge the not so new to remember that “been there, done that” is not the mindset of masters. BTL leaders slow down for the new and challenge those that think they know to really “know it all.”

Some leaders work well with seasoned veterans. Some leaders do their best work with raw recruits. Some leaders are only good with those that are like them. The BTL leader lights ’em all. This isn’t so hard when the team is static and all kinda grew up together. Your team is probably neither of those…

How well are you catching your curse of knowledge and slowing down to help the newbies catch up? How well are you challenging little miss knowitall to really master where she’s been and what she’s done?

How in the world can you do either if you don’t have the discipline of practice ingrained in your system?

  1. 69…. That’s also the percent of conflict that is “perpetual” according to gottman… God help us not just see things thru our own eyes but thru the eyes of others as well… Man that’s a prayer I need — well, perpetually.
