Practice 68 was magic because a couple came clean. Reika and Jimmy told the team of twelve the truth. They told us when they encounter an overwhelming challenge from one they love or one they loathe they tend NOT to a fight or flight response. They told us they tend toward fight of “F off.” Once their little voice in their head says “F off,” it is angry. The problem is, it doesn’t stop there. “F it” comes next, they told me. “F it,” is mostly about resignation – they’ve given up. Giving up is the beginning of victimhood and this is the, oftentimes, silent killer of team chemistry. Do you see it?
Practice 68 was magic because JZ went down the bunny hole with Camalama. He asked 7 curious questions in a row. Cam felt understood and his arms told me so. Practice 68 was magic because Liz read her notes and Andrew did not. Practice 68 was magic because TZ challenged Stivo to “use the tools we have,” and she heard a challenge from belief instead of hearing she had been shut down by her boss.
Practice 68 was magic because a couple crazies practiced being childlike, got a bit more creative as a result, and led to some realtor like real innovation we can use. Practice 68 was magic because we invested an hour in conversation and one page in the playbook.
Practice 68 was magic because truth was told, truth was heard, truth was clarified, and truth built trust. Truth is missing on most teams, most of the time. The truth will set you free but only if you don’t let it shut you down, piss you off, or give you a false sense of pride before freedom finally arrives. Practice 68 was magic because this team is learning to speak and listen to truth some of the time. And, “some of the time” is all it takes to taste real, team chemistry – the kinda chemistry that sets ONE free. Today a team of twelve tasted something sweet. Truth, trust, and team chemistry taste good because they are good.
What will I taste when I practice with your team?
