Pride deux…

The stronger you become the bigger this problem. The more success you have the more likely this struggle. The more your wealth accumulates the more likely this builds too. The smarter you get the more this gets you.

In fact the unintended consequence of converting your core into your sCORE is you will begin to believe you are the architect and designer of your domain. You just might lose perspective. Dorothy Sayer was right. “The devilish strategy of pride is that it attacks us, not in our weakest points, but in our strongest. It is preeminently the sin of the noble mind.”

Today, as you look around you and your team, keep this perspective. Stop looking down or up when it comes to comparing yourself to the performance of your “neighbor.” Your peer, your boss, your sibling, your spouse, your competition, your partner, your children, your parents, are not your aim. As C.S. Lewis said so brilliantly, pick a better target.

“A proud man is always looking down on things and on people; and of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something above you.”

Build your strong CORE. And, get busy building your humility. The stronger we become, the more likely we are to slowly become proud of what we’ve built. The slippery slope awaits.

God, help me build strength and keep perspective. God, help me…

  1. Isn’t it so true Pride Deux becomes the insidious inscription tatoo’d on the “Elite Underbelly” you just wrote about?

p.s. and the underbelly is the part you see when you are not the “one up” but the “one below”
