According to all the latest science on willpower (you do trust science don’t you), your ability to resist temptation is contextual. In other words, your brain cannot resist everything; it would simply take too much energy for that kinda crazy willpower. So, according to science, your willpower in one area doesn’t translate to another. For instance, you might be a disciplined work out fanatic like diabolical and never miss a pain filled encounter in the 3PP, yet have absolutely zilch when it comes to resisting chocolate on your assistants desk when you just can’t seem to walk on by…
Willpower is situational according to science; it depends on the context. According to our research at BTL this is an incomplete truth. Willpower is all about your CORE. Want more willpower resisting what it is you want to resist? Build a CORE belief around it. Bolt it on. Write about why it matters and how you’re gonna do it. You see, beliefs drive behaviors. If you believe it’s your God given right to eat as much chocolate as you like, feel free. If you believe a little sweet is good, translate that into something specific, concrete, and actionable. Make it stupid simple. Your brain, over time and through your successful handling of adversity, won’t have to think when you see something tempting and want to walk on by.
Your CORE is your key to consistently living in alignment. You just pre-loaded your response before said temptation arrived. Yes, beliefs are that powerful; especially if you’ve authored them. Want to change a couple behaviors of yours? Make sure you’ve got some bolted on beliefs behind ’em. Beliefs, strong ones, have the power to move us without so much as thinking. This is good news, isn’t it? Don’t think about it too long.
Good…
