Creators are a weird lot. They are most like the juvenile delinquent and truth be told, how many of you reading this rant actually go around town with a spray paint can just looking for a wall to cover? Most of us humans are reluctant to create. We want someone else to pave the way and then maybe we’ll add a couple thoughts, timbers, and tidbits. Leaders would benefit from remembering this little truth. We humans love to contribute to a cause, a company, or to a really cool creation. We mostly just wait for something that excites us enough to get involved.
Leaders create.
Leaders create and encourage the team to contribute. Leaders understand they, oftentimes, gotta be the catalyst stirring stuff up and getting the creative process underway. Once the creative process breaks inertia, all kinda contributors somehow start arriving. Some want to contribute a ton. Some contribute a tidbit. The cool systems make it easy to do either. What kinda creative process you leading? Is it easy to “and?” Do you welcome contributions both large and small? Or does your genius make others feel small?
Leaders create and invite others contributions. How ’bout you…
