OSU, kdev and the power of passion…

Today we ended practice 125 with Bradley talking about rekindling, rediscovering, and reenergizing, at least that’s what I heard…

He feels like his life has become too narrowly focused over the past half dozen years or so. He feels like he’s a bit lost and wants to find himself, so to speak. He is not alone in this endeavor of rediscovering, rekindling, and reenergizing. We all tend to lose some of ourselves as we move through the natural transitions of life. All humans gotta learn to downshift and slow down on the speedway we call work and life. Rediscovering your “love to’s” is all about the CORE and the power of passion.

Life, remember, is mostly an energy management problem. Most humans lose track of their “love to’s” along the way toward becoming an adult. Caught up in the rush to responsibility they forget the artist inside. Awakening these passions is all part of the process. This is why the 3P elements of your six pack CORE begin with passions, followed by purposes, and bookended with your process. Humans need lots of reminders. Slow down and let a little rekindling restart your fire…

And, we learned that BIG ten championships are bitter and sweet, kinda like so much of life. There are always those that feel like the team won, but they lost. There are always those that feel the team won, but they’re not really a part of it since they didn’t even get in the game. There are always those that felt the team won, they won, yet somehow it still feels shallow or something less than it should. There are always those that feel like it’s time to move on to bigger things and not take the time to celebrate along the way. There are always those who feel it wasn’t complete enough since it was shared with Iowa, another investor, or some other kinda collaborator. There are always those who feel like we won but can’t get over some other loss along the way. There are always those who feel like we won on the mat, so to speak, but are pinned by life. All victories, I’ve come to discover, have an element of both the bitter and the sweet – such is life.

Great leaders understand and embrace this. Great teams learn to celebrate team victories, individual wins, and even collective losses when they left it all on the mat, court, field, or any endeavor in their work/life. Great teams, you see, love mastering their craft. And, great teams love each other. Great leaders love mastering their craft and love their team. Love is the purest form of passion and the energizer of master performers regardless the canvas. Learning to love yourself, your work, and your team is fuel for life. Learn this. You are an artist in addition to whatever else you are, at least that’s what I’ve come to believe in my study of individuals, teams, and leaders the world over. You cannot perform at your peak until you align purposes with passions. FACT. You cannot align what you’ve not discovered and made your own. So, my friend you need to slow down and reflect. You can start by simply writing out your “Love to’s.” Start by sitting still somewhere beautiful and slowly writing out a few of your passions. Write something like this – I love to watch sunsets. I love to walk my dogs. I love to ride my bicycle. I love to…

Once you’ve got a few of your love to’s on paper, remember what it felt like to do one or more of them. Let it sink it. Now, go do it. No excuses. Go. You will soon feel the difference a little passion can provide. Your team may notice too.

Rediscover, rekindle, reenergize. Good…
