Come clean to dream…

Today, during practice 126, we explored the BTL lifelong learning recipe. The recipe begins with your big dream. I made the team STOP and really think about their big dream, the “O” (Overarching Vision) to their OPUS. As they wrote my mind wandered back, that is. My mind went back to long ago when I once practiced with a team from New Balance. I can recall the team of nine struggling mightily around the idea of catching their own dream and one finally breaking the awkward silence with a daunting declaration. “What if,” she sheepishly started, “you don’t believe you are worthy of having your own dream?”

Her question would cause me to study the root why behind her question. Why would a human believe they are NOT worthy of dreaming, I wondered. Here’s what my studying has uncovered so far. In a word, shame.

Shame.

Shame, you see, stops the seeds of dreaming from leaving the pocket of the sower. In fact, the more shame a human feels the more they hide from themselves and those around ’em. The more we hide, the harder it is for us to know ourselves and to be known. Humans cannot connect to what they don’t know. Do you see the vicious cycle?

You gotta come clean, I’ve come to believe, before you’re gonna allow yourself to dream. Come clean. Dream. This is why it helps to believe in a God of second chances who knows you, knows your dirt, and loves you just the way you are. So, if you’re struggling to dream it might help to come clean. It might help to look at your bolted on beliefs, your worldview, and see what you believe about you and your dream worthiness.

Come clean. Dream. Good…
