This past Saturday PJ, Stud, and I were the only participants in the 3PP. We did a hard workout I put together using the seconds pro app. I primed everybody that we were going to repeat Saturday’s work when we got together for our early morning 3P yesterday. PJ and Stud knew what to expect since they had just done this workout two days prior. The other five hadn’t a clue.
However, I was running a little experiment about human performance and kinda changed the game. Instead of doing exactly what we had done before, I changed a few things. We took exactly the same time in total. Saturday’s workout was 33 minutes and 33 seconds. Tuesday’s was exactly the same. The difference was repetition and rest. Instead of 90 TRX up/downs, we performed 100. Instead of 90 chin ups on the beam, we performed 99. Instead of 65 TRX knee in’s, we performed 100. And, instead of doing zero TRX atomic push ups, we performed 95. In short, we took what felt like a really hard work out and jacked it up measurably without increasing the time to perform.
After we completed the workout, I waited awhile before calling PJ to see what he thought. He told me he thought we must have done more rep’s the second go around cause he was dripping after this one; not so much on Saturday’s. When I informed him of how much more work he had performed he couldn’t quite believe what he was hearing. He actually didn’t recall not performing any atomics on Saturday. After doing 95 on Tuesday, his brain just insisted he must have performed some on Saturday. Nope, none.
I put the workout together and still found it hard to believe how much more we were capable of. We simply need someone or something to give us a push. Remember some wisdom from Ralph Waldo Emerson, my friend. “Our chief want in life is someone who will make us do what we can.” You have a pattern to whatever kinda production you’re putting out in work and in life. Even if it’s a highly productive pattern, you need to keep reaching if you want to improve or even sustain your performance. And, it really helps if you have a few pushing you. Thanks PJ and my 3P pals for the push. And, thanks seconds timer for being such a relentless s.o.b.
Good…
