Yesterday, during practice in a beautiful setting here at the Broadmoor, I reminded a team from around the world about a universal truth regarding our children. We tend to think the most damaging thing in their life is something that happens to them at school, some award they miss out on, some team they’re left off, or some breakup with a high school sweetheart. It’s not. Don’t trust me, trust Carl Jung the father of modern psychology. Trust the good doctor. Here’s what he had to say long ago and it’s true today, or so I think.
“The most damaging thing in the life of a child, is the unlived life of its parent.”
Thanks, Carl, for the reminder. We parents gotta model the way, embrace pain and suffering, and aim at embodying truth in LOVE. We’ve got to show our children what it looks like to be an adult, to mature, to do what we want, and to want to serve others and something bigger than self as we do it. So, today, live out your opus, friend. Live your labor of love. Who knows, your children just may be watching…
