Today, A CEO reviewed with me one of the challenges he communicated to his owners. It was a good challenge in concept – the delivery, however, missed the mark. He used too many words and ended it with a passive aggressive one that I cannot tolerate coming out of the mouths of any of my clients. He ended his challenge with the word, “Really?”

Really?

This word has become a common finisher to passive aggressive communication among our youth. Of course, it’s crept it’s way into our modern leaders vocabulary too. BTL leaders are not passive aggressive. BTL leaders are performance aggressive. These leaders end their challenges with challenging questions or challenging statements. They speak ccd (clear, concise, and direct) because they believe speaking truth in love doesn’t require disclaimers.

The words you choose matter, leader. Choose them wisely. Your choices have consequences. Yes, they really do. Good…
