This morning a team of gymnasts were given their first taste of BTL. Taylor and her teammate laughed like crazy as they learned a bit more about each other. Tennile and her teammate got crazy close as they began to better understand. Ten teams of two, on the way to becoming ONE, distinct, deeply connected, and BTL. Today, as the apprentice and I exited after a little workout of our own across the hall in the land of grappies, we poked our heads into the gymnastics room and watched grace and strength in motion. The team was in the middle of their work. Some were flying through the air toward some small horse kinda thing that would have scared me stupid. Some were dancing on air, it appeared. Some were flying from bar to bar and some were flipping all over some beam. The apprentice and I shared a smile as we watched for a couple seconds in amazement.
As we turned to leave, one of the gymnasts was running toward us wearing a big smile. “Thank you so much for today,” she blurted out. We returned her smile and thanks. We headed for home. You see, every team wants to taste community with their coworkers regardless the sport, business, or endeavor. 7 good minutes is a good investment. Like so many good investments, you can’t see an immediate return as easily as you can from just doing your work, repeating your routine, or spending time balancing on your beam. Study history, however, and you’ll find the greatest teams liked each other. The greatest teams understood each other. The greatest teams put in the greatest effort where they felt safe, understood, challenged, and deeply connected. 7 good minutes is a good tool toward that aim. Invest a bit more time here, leader. Give your teammate the gift of understanding. Good…
